Craps Faqs

What is the difference between street craps and casino craps?

They are essentially the same, only that the house in street Craps is usually a bunch of people who are not regulated by any large company, pit boss or other bureaucracy. The primary drawback in street Craps is that it leaves out the opportunity to use all the great 'prop' bets that Craps has to offer.

Generally, what should I know about Craps etiquette?

Craps is full of quirks. This, partially, because of the people who play Craps. Like many of us, but to the umpteenth degree, Craps player are quite the superstitious types. First and foremost, and this goes for any game, make sure you learn the rules. Try taking a class or 2. After you take a class, if you have the chance, stand behind some players and try to get a sense of how all those things you learned in the class pan out in reality. Remember, once you step up to a table, you will be expected to flow with the game. Some dealers are more understanding then others, but you shouldn't expect the dealer to be a patient teacher. In short, most of the game is common sense and you'll pick it up quickly.

What kinds of superstitions might I see while playing Craps?

Blowing on the dice is probably the most popular one. There are also those players who go nuts when you touch their chips. But maybe this has more to do with protecting their money.

What is the best way to bet at craps?

Go with the lowest house edge bets and that would be pass/come or don't pass/don't come. Then place odds behind them. Try to get the most money in odds and the least money on the line.
